Jekabsone-Zogota is not only the star of the Latvian national team, she's also one of the biggest basketball figures in Europe. Anete was named FIBA Europe Women's Player of the Year in 2007 and finished second in 2008. Both honours came as the result for her remarkable performances with the Latvian national team and club side Dynamo Moscow. At the 2007 EuroBasket Women, she finished second in scoring (17.2) and fifth in assists (3.0). She did almost the same during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, finishing third in scoring (15.8) and second in assists (4.0). Anete is the daughter of a former Latvian basketball star, Andris Jekabsons, who won a silver medal at the 1986 FIBA World Championship with the USSR. Now, she is looking for new challenges. She is dreaming about winning a medal in this 2009 EuroBasket Women with Latvia and then to have a successful first WNBA campaign in the fall.
