There are few bigger names in European basketball than Evina Maltsi. She was crowned MVP at EuroBasket Women 2009 in Latvia after a mesmerising tournament which helped propel her team to fifth spot and a place in the 2010 FIBA World Championships Women, where once again, she produced big numbers in a major tournament. Maltsi is a player who seems to love the big tournaments and performing in the big games at the elite level. This is the type of stage that suits her and gets the best from her. Hand her the ball in crunch time and she will take the responsibility without a second thought, it's what she seems to love best. Her pedigree is top class and the tournament will be a better one if she gets back to full fitness after a season ravaged by injury. Maltsi missed most of the EuroLeague Women campaign in a frustrating stop-start period when a series of muscualr injuries curtailed her court time. The 1.80m Small forward can go off for a big points haul at any time and expect her to showcase her skills both inside and out with the emphasis on her deadly shooting skills. She has already talked about calling time on her career and retiring after this EuroBasket Women tournament although that could be postponed if Greece qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London.
